Save dogs from breeders

Sandy, the 3 year old Great Dane was rescued along with 3 - 4 months old malnutrition-ed pups from a breeder in Sahibabad, November 2011

Sandy was suffering from TVT (Trans Venerial Tumor)
All 3 pups were malnourished, under weight & had under-growth.

One of the pups had malunion of femur bone.

Do report if you come across any illegal dog breeder. Breeders are those heartless traders who make the dogs breed forcefully more than once a year. This leaves the dogs much in pain (as they made to breed more than their capacity) and effects them biologically. The new born pups are hence born with genetic defects. Dogs will vanish from this planet one day if this brutality continues.

Rescue of Barn Owl

We thank Vineet Arora (SPCA,Noida) for rescuing the Barn Owl from a police station in Noida. It was given to fauna police and later released. The cops had kept the helpless owl tied up from its legs and were reluctant to let it go. They captured it calling it a bad omen. (Abshagun) . What century are we living in people?

Dog- ran over by car

A reckless car driver ran over a poor dog on the streets and left him crying in the streets with a fractured leg. Fauna Police intervened for its first aid. The dog recovered later.

But where have we lost humanity? Why is there no concern for the strays. Is it because its easy to get away after injuring them, or is their life so cheap?

We heartily thank Arpan Sharma for providing us with his car for the poor dog's rescue. We thank Cherida Hivale for taking extensive care of the dog and bearing all expenses for its treatment. Fauna Police is also thankful to Amritika Phool for fostering the pup.

Bird Rescue- after humans hurt fauna

Senseless human activities/rituals hurt the fauna

Since when have we human beings become so heartless? Our requests have time and again fell on deaf ears. Kite flying endangers the lives of the birds. This mighty Tawny Eagle met with a bad fate in a similar incident of kite flying. The Eagle was treated on its injured wing. Despite a fast recovery, the Eagle was unfortunately crippled forever post surgery. She stayed with us for 6 months and died thereafter. Due to lack of bird hospitals and aviaries in India, a number of birds see a sad end.

The Tawny Eagle (Aquila Rapax) is a large bird of prey which feeds on small mammals or reptiles. The magnificent bird's wind spread ranges from 159 to 190 cm

We request a limit to kite flying as they not only put the birds to danger, but run the risk of infringing on the airspace of low flying air crafts and electric power lines. Safety is in your hands. Help save lives. Fauna Police is trying its best to conserve the fauna and rescue the needy. We hope we succeed with plenty of aeries and hospitals in future.

The worst maggot case

Ever saw such a deeply wounded dog with worst case of maggots?
This poor dog was rescued by Vineet Dhaiya from "Garden Of five senses" (Saket . The wound was a small one but the staff of the place had no clue whom to contact for its treatment.  Had the treatment been done on time , the wound would not have been in such a bad shape. Fauna Police's officer Vineet Dahiya alerted us and informed Abhinav Srihan who rushed to the spot to give the the dog first aid. Post the first aid rescue, SAI ASHRAM'S Ambulance took him to one of the most caring shelter in Delhi, where Mr Rajiv Vij and Dr. Vikas Gard attended to the dog. The dog's whole leg is reported to be badly infected. We pray for it's quick recovery.

PS- Fauna Police does not have shelter for large animals or birds. Do not solely depend on us for the rescues or first aids. Neither do we have  ambulance of our own, pertaining to which help often reaches late. We are in the process of possessing one soon. Donations are welcome for the contribution to the noble cause.

Please contact Fauna Police emergency helpline number for such cases: 9212111116, 9868355222

Abandoned Spitz Rescued

This is Rider, an intelligent and beautiful Spitz who was found abandoned in South Delhi one afternoon. (Spitz are often mistaken for a Pomeranian in India) How could people be so heartless to let go of such a faithful and well behaved animal? Rider was hungry and depressed when he could not trace its way back home. Abhinav Srihan, spotted the dog and took him in his custody. Rider took rounds of Sarojini Nagar on Abhinav's bike and seemed to enjoy them. The friendly dog craved for more rides and never got off the bike. That's how he earned the name - Rider.

Rider was put for adoption and sent to a shelter. Earnest request to owners of dogs. Please do not abandon the poor creatures on roads. Would you have done that if that was your own kid? They are like helpless children who depend on you each moment. Have a heart and care for them if they fall sick or grow old.

Rescue Story- Pigeon

Fauna Police, on an average gets 10 calls a day for injured birds, the most common ones being house pigeons. We take utmost care in treating these timid birds and release them in the open sky again post treatment. The major reasons for their injuries are kite flying or preying birds.
We hereby request you to refrain from flying kites, which endangers the life of these poor harmless birds. The razor sharp threads (Maanjha) get entangled in the feet and wings of the birds, hence causing them deep wounds, sometimes rendering them crippled for their lifetime.

RESCUE STORY- Crested Serpent Eagle

A magnificent bird rescued by Fauna Police from Ghaziabad.

This Crested Serpent Eagle had a wound at his tail and wings. The wounds were stitched ( not may hospitals stitch wounds on birds) and she was released after recovering.

The beautiful Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela) is a medium-sized bird or prey or raptor bird, found in the tropical Asian forests. They earn their names from their feeding on snakes. They call often with a loud, piercing and familiar three or two-note call.

Their large heads, big alert eyes and strong huge wings make them a perfect preying bird. They follow snakes and lizards on the ground. Often they can bee seen hunting for food during morning time. These lovely birds often make loud noises on sensing danger.

Say NO to Bird Trade

The trade in 12 species of Indian parakeets is illegal according to the Wildlife Protection Act. However though India has strong laws; their reinforcement is not strong enough to deter the criminals who violate the law.
This is partly because the general public is completely ignorant about the law and hence continue to encourage these nefarious activities by purchasing these innocent birds from their cruel traders.
Going beyond legalities, The parrot trade is wrong on many counts.
1. It is extremely cruel to the birds. Birds are often kept in very cramped conditions where their wings, toes etc get injured by brushing against sharp metal edges or wiring. Also, as a result of the stress of many birds being confined in small cages, the birds fight with each other and injure themselves.
2. The wild population of all Indian parrot species, with possibly just one exception has declined steeply in the past. Parrots play a very valuable ecological role as seed predators and removing vast numbers from the ecosystem would cause lot of ecological damage, including the spread of harmful weeds.
3. Parrots are not domesticated animals like the Dog or Goldfish and are completely unsuitable for keeping in captivity , especially indoors inside a typical human household. Even if they are captive bred for many generations, they retain their instinct and some species can inflict painful bites.
4. The behavioral and nutritional needs of some species are very complex and not all people can provide them the adequate care they require in captivity.
5. Once a bird, especially young ones, have been in captivity for a certain duration , which varies with species, they are very difficult to release into the wild and will definitely die a very sad death, by starvation or preyed upon by scavengers and predators. PLEASE don’t release birds into the wild; if you note birds being traded in cruel conditions, try to get them into a proper bird rescue shelter.
6. From a social perspective, the people who trap birds from the wild, many of whom are from the tribal community are paid very little money and are brutally exploited by the middlemen, who are based in big cities like Bangalore. The middlemen make the most money in this trade and often have criminal connections.
However the good news is that ALL this can stop, only if you can make a choice.
It is up to the general public to stop this nefarious and ecologically damaging activity. If you stop buying birds, especially parrots as pets, the capture, the unhygienic captive breeding and the cruelty would stop too.
PLEASE DON’T ENCOURAGE THE BIRD TRADE.
